On Modern Notebook this week: Tyler Kline shares a work by Anthony Barfield for euphonium and piano called “Meditations of Sound and Light,” along with Eleanor Alberga’s String Quartet No. 3.
And a piece for mallet percussion quartet by Devonté Hynes titled “Perfectly Voiceless,” which begins with a wall of old school minimalist textures, and eventually gives way to reveal a catchy pop melody.
Plus: works by Eleanor Alberga, Stewart Goodyear, Nokuthula Ngwenyama, Shelley Washington, Leila Adu-Gilmore, and others; and performances by Third Coast Percussion, euphonium soloist Demondrae Thurman, cellist Amanda Gookin, saxophonist Jeffrey Leung, and more.
That’s on the next Modern Notebook, Sunday night from 8 to 10 on Classical WSMR 89.1 and 103.9.
